Restoring 10 Homes
Rebuilding Together Greater Milwaukee Celebrates 10 Years by Restoring 10 Homes on National Rebuilding Day
Milwaukee WI - (May 15, 2010) - Rebuilding Together Greater Milwaukee, an affiliate of the nation’s leading nonprofit working to preserve affordable homeownership and revitalize communities, will celebrate its 10 year anniversary of participating in National Rebuilding Day this Saturday, May 15th. Rebuilding Together affiliates across the country mobilize teams of volunteers and sponsors to provide free home rehabilitation for low-income homeowners who are elderly, disabled, and veterans.

“We are pleased to be providing 10 deserving homeowners with a peace of mind that will allow them to age in place,” said Lynnea Katz-Petted, Executive Director of Rebuilding Together Greater Milwaukee.

Rebuilding Together Greater Milwaukee will provide free home repairs to 10 low-income senior homeowners. RTGM has been providing free home repairs for 10 years in the Milwaukee area. RTGM positively impacts the lives of deserving homeowners by making it possible for them to remain in their homes. Hundreds of volunteers devote their time and skills by providing free home repairs. Such repairs ensure these homeowners a safe home and also benefits the neighborhoods in which they live and the economic sustainability of the community.

Significant work is done over the course of one day to make homes safer and more functional, which enhances the quality of life for Milwaukee homeowners.

Examples of the types of projects being completed include – painting, plaster repairs, minor plumbing, replacing handrails, repairing flooring, drywall repair and installation, new lighting, the installation of several accessibility modifications and assistive devices (e.g., wheelchair ramp construction, grab bars), porch repairs and installations, water heaters, and new appliances just to name a few.

“A huge thank you to the dozens of local corporations, small businesses, and contractors who make this all possible,” said Lynnea Katz-Petted, “the impact of their generosity is far reaching and life changing.”

Rebuilding Together Greater Milwaukee (RTGM) is part of the national organization, Rebuilding Together, the nation’s leading nonprofit working to preserve affordable homeownership and revitalize neighborhoods by bringing volunteers and communities together to improve the homes and lives of low-income homeowners.
